Infertility

Infertility

If a couple is not able to obtain pregnancy without resorting to any method of protection for a period of one year, it is called 'infertility'. In 15% of pairs, no cause can be detected. This is called idiopathic or unexplained infertility).

It is called '' primary infertility '' in cases where pregnancy has never been achieved. In cases where a pregnancy has been obtained before, but after which no pregnancy could be achieved, it is called secondary infertility. The pregnancy obtained before can be a pregnancy which can
be normal and result in a normal birth, or there may be early or late miscarriages, or ectopic pregnancies which are unwanted.

The condition of pairs which have proved it impossible to conceive by known methods is called "sterility". For example, in situations where no sperm can be found in a man, or cases in which a woman is unable to obtain an egg or there is no congenital uterus. Although in some countries
around the world it is possible to find some remedy for such hopeless situations through foreign sperm donation, foreign egg donation or surrogate mothers, but the implementation of these methods in our country is not legal.

15% of married couples are infertile. This situation is caused by 40% female, 40% male and 20% by male and female reasons. At the end of the first year of the marriage, the chance of having a pregnancy of 20% reaches 80%. Therefore, it is necessary to wait for the end of the first year for a pregnancy and not to hurry.

Couples who cannot achieve pregnancy and are complaining from infertility should consult with the centers where there is a team consisting of a physician, laboratory staff (embryologist), urologist, psychologist, dietitian and nurse, who are specialized in this subject, for diagnosis and treatment.
In these centers, the general health status of the couples is evaluated and treatment is started with the most convenient and easiest methods.

Spouses should go together for the first interview because the problem of not getting a pregnancy is a common problem.
